Brake fluid should be replaced every 24 months for your safety. Brake fluid is a type of hydraulic oil and is hygroscopic – which means that over time is absorbs water. Brake fluid must withstand very high operating temperatures. When the braking system reaches boiling point any water in the system boils and turns to vapour. This vapour is compressible and can lead to a ‘spongy’ brake pedal; leading to increased stopping distances and lack of confidence in the stopping capability of the car. Replenishing the fluid ensures that the system operates efficiently and safely.
